The Next stop on the trip was to camp at Fairhaven Beach State Park and to paddle Lake Ontario. A Ranger had recommended Sterling Creek thru the Wetlands across from the beach. The plan was to do the Creek and then paddled out to Lake Ontario for Sunset. However, when I returned from the Creek the wind had picked up and the chop on Ontario was a no go. But the marsh lands and Sterling Creek was a great day spent on the water and absolutely beautiful filled with wildlife. I had woke up early and went down to the beach for a sunrise paddle on Ontario the next morning. But in the dark I could hear the waves as I sat there. Determined to go out on the water I waited. But the more I waited, the more I thought to myself what a stupid idea it was. A text from my wife made me think at just the right time... " What the hell am I doing?" No drysuit, spray skirt isn't staying on the new kayak, new kayak that I'm just learning, and I'm alone on one of the most dangerous bodies of water in the US. My daughter was getting married the following week and it wasn't the time to be stu pid, so I bailed. This part of Ontario is too exposed, too open, and it was too cold to go out without a drysuit alone. So I bailed and went on with life. Sometimes, you just gotta realize you are about to be stupid.. and just not do it.
