Florence Easter 2015 Scoppio del Carro

Every Easter Florence, Italy celebrates with the Scoppio del Carro, the "Bursting of the Cart", in which certain clubs and civic organizations of the city, dressed in Renaissance costumes including period weapons and armor, march from several locations to the Piazza del Duomo between the cathedral and its baptistery, accompanying a towering cart drawn by four white oxen ornamented with garlands. The processions start before 9am. After their arrival, the archbishop and clergy of the city come out to bless the cart and the assembled multitudes, bells are rung, and finally, at 11am, a pyrotechnic dove shoots out of the doors of the Duomo on a zip line to the cart and ignites the huge quantity of fireworks on and in the cart, leading to a noisy display that lasts several minutes. It's a good idea to arrive early and stay upwind.
