There are elements to horse back riding that carry over into Ma Bu training. One important factor to horseback riding is sinking the weight into the heels. This instruction is so that you can produce a natural hugging sensation with the thighs and knees to hold on to the body of the horse. By doing so in this way creates a more natural connection for the rider to the horse. If you were to just squeeze the horse with your knees and thighs you would create a lot of tension and stiffness and the connection between rider and horse will be lost. The legs will also become exhausted from the strain. Therefor by pressing and sinking the weight into the heels we can create a natural more effortless connection between rider and horse. When we incorporate this into our horse stance training we open the lower back (Ming Men) and drop the tailbone downwards as we sink the weight into the heels. An opening sensation is created that comes down from the lower back, down around the glutes, into the outer thighs and over the knees. This is a natural Peng sensation that can be achieved that will further stabilize your structure and take your training to the next level.
