The water is moved by pulling and pushing it inside the cylinder by the help of piston through suction and delivery pipe respectively. The action accomplishes correctly by non-return inlet and outlet valves respectively. In a single acting reciprocating pump the delivery of water is intermittent i.e. while pull of water inside the cylinder, no water is delivered from delivery pipe while push of water it is delivered. The use of air vessel solves the problem of intermittent flow i.e. the flow becomes almost continued by the use of air vessel. In this lecture, one can learn easily i.e. how the air vessel helps the reciprocating pump to keep continued flow of water.
