Paul was a young social worker in Bristol when he launched a campaign that would transform his life and the nation. Born in 1937 to a British mother and West African father, he faced racism throughout his life. In response to a Bristol bus company's refusal to hire black or Asian employees, Paul initiated a 60-day boycott. Inspired by Martin Luther King's achievements. His campaign led to the company abolishing its 'colour bar' on August 28, 1963, on the very day that Martin Luther King delivered his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech in Washington. Paul later gained fame for challenging a pub's 'no blacks' policy, resulting in his arrest and trial. His victory contributed to the Race Relations Act of 1965, significantly impacting race relations in Britain.
