Rib fracture: What does this injury mean for you, and how can you get better?

A rib fracture is a break of one of the twelve bones of the chest wall. A rib fracture is a very painful injury that often causes pain with laughing, coughing, or straining. It also limits sports performance, causing pain with overhead activity or contact. http://challenge.drdavidgeier.com/ds/... I want to help you! This checklist can help you plan your next step to recover quickly and safely. http://www.sportsmedicinesimplified.com Please note: I don't respond to questions and requests for specific medical advice left in the comments to my videos. I receive too many to keep up (several hundred per week), and legally I can't offer specific medical advice to people who aren't my patients (see below). If you want to ask a question about a specific injury you have, leave it in the comments below, and I might answer it in an upcoming Ask Dr. Geier video. DIAGNOSIS Diagnosis of a rib fracture is mostly a clinical one. A chest x-ray often cannot demonstrate this fracture. A patient could get a CT scan, but that’s an expensive test that likely doesn’t change the treatment. TREATMENT OF A RIB FRACTURE Treatment usually requires nothing more than time for the fracture to heal. Unfortunately, there aren’t many reliable ways to speed the healing process. Some professional sports teams will have their athlete wear a bone stimulator, although there is little proof it speeds the time to full healing.
