Abingdon Bun Throwing Tradition on the day of the Royal Wedding of Kate & William, and the sun finally appeared. Abingdonians left with a thirst for more pagentry, tradition and history after the stunning Royal Wedding streamed into town for this event which dates back over 200 years. According to the Abingdon Blog 4000 buns were baked at nearby Millet's Farm. Children and adults had great fun, the bun throwers used those slings that dog owners use to get greater distance. The first recorded bun throwing marked King George III's coronation in 1761. There were buns marked W for William and C for Catherine the idea being to catch both, I caught neither. http://www.abingdonwalks.co.uk/ (sorry I experienced technical difficulties with this video caused by the bright sun and holding the camera up in the air for 7 minutes)
