Spiritual jazz legend Charles Lloyd was given an honorary membership of the Ben Webster Foundation on Monday July 4 to coincide with his two sold-out nights at Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2016. Since its establishment in 1976, the Ben Webster Foundation has had a range of exceptional honorary members such as Benny Carter, Mercer Ellington, Harry Edison, Clark Terry, Yusef Lateef, Herluf Kamp Larsen and Sonny Rollins. Now, Charles Lloyd joins the foundation’s long list of honorary members. This took place at an event at iconic Montmartre, Ben Webster’s main musical outlet during his eight years in Denmark. Charles Lloyd accepted the honorary membership with joy and answered questions from the audience while reminiscing about his friendship with the great Webster himself. Special thanks to Charles Lloyd, Dorothy Darr and the Ben Webster Foundation. Recorded and edited in Jazzhus Montmartre (Store Regnegade) by Stine Danving, P8 Jazz. Sound mastering by Kasper Stougaard Andersen. Photos by Kristoffer Juel Poulsen. Presenter Henrik Wolsgaard-Iversen, chairman of the Ben Webster Foundation.
