Having a look around at whats growing in August on the Allotment. Normally the vegetable garden is starting to look a bit tired by this time in the summer but not this year, it feel like it hasn't really got started yet! This is an unseasonably grey August Plot Tour. Somethings are growing fantastically - the climbing beans are the best they've been for years and the Dahlias don't seem to mind the lack of sunshine either but the tomatoes and peppers are a bit of a wash out!! 00:00 Entrance 00:47 Fig and Apricot Trees 01:42 In the Fruit Cage 04:20 Brassica Beds 07:47 Climbing French Beans 11:02 Carrots/Beetroot/Turnips 13:10 In the Greenhouse 15:16 Mulberry tree 16:38 Up the main path 17:00 Runnerbeans 17:30 Winter Squash 19:41 Greek Gigantese 20:07 Courgettes 20:52 Borlotti Beans 23:00 Dahlias 23:52 Lettuce 25:27 Crown Prince Squash 26:02 Pear Tree 26:11 Flowers 29:16 In the Polytunnel (Tomatoes) 32:37 Cold frame 33:20 The End We start with the Elderflower and Bay tree at the front, down past the Fig and the Apricot tress into the fruit cage. Not a great deal of fruit growing in there - instead i have sweetcorn, tree cabbages and nasturtiums mainly! But there are loads of raspberries coming along! The grape vine looks a bit worse for wear and the gooseberries need to be pruned. Then the brassica beds - we have 3 main brassica raised bed this year. the cavolo nero/tuscan kale looks fantastic and the Brussels sprouts and kalettes are coming along. I have also gone crazy with the Kohl Rabi and we have loads of it! Having a look at the french beans growing over the arches - we have 3 varieties one yellow, one purple and one green and they are all going well. The asparagus is finished and in full 'fern-mode'. The garlic chives are flowering. I have some new plans for a designated Carrot Raised Bed as the stony ground and weather have really not done them any good this summer. We also have beetroot and turnips coming along. A few Fennel and Parsnips have survived too... The greenhouse is a disaster zone. No melons, very few cucumbers/peppers and chillies. No aubergines! All very sad... lol There's always next year!!!
