SmartHacks EV Figaro ep 01 - Converting a Classic Japanese import to be fully electric

Converting a classic Japanese import to a fully-charged, all electric weekend cruiser is no small task. I decided to start a new series that follows my progress converting my 1991 Nissan Figaro. Though the team was small, it's no doubt that a number of key people had a hand in what we've come to know and love about the Figaro. From what I could piece together from various sources, Mr. Naoki Sakai was the chief industrial designer on the project. However, according to Japanese Wikipedia, https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9D%..., Mr. Sakai was closely involved with the release of three Pike cars, yet Figaro is absent from the list. Other sources cite a competition within Nissan for the honor of creating the 3rd in their Pike car lineup - one stating that Shoji Takahashi submitted the winning entry for the design contest. No other information could be found about him. Elsewhere, Mr. Jun Shimizu is credited for developing the final design for Figaro as the in-house design lead. Still another English article, from Blueprint magazine, 1991, says the design lead was Mr. Yasuhiko Honma. I elected to showcase Mr. Yoshiro Kobata as he continues to be the most active supporter of the Figaro community to date and there is more credible evidence from Japan underscoring his role.
