Track 6 from their compilation album “Blown to Smithereens: The Best of the Smithereens” released in 1995 copyright Capitol Records and featuring tracks recorded between 1982 and 1994. The band from Carteret, New Jersey was led by Pat DiNizio who had a distinctive voice and wrote all the band’s songs. He was heavily influenced by the Beatles, and like them, he strived to write meaningful lyrics that told a story but over heavy guitars with lots of bottom-end. Their debut album “Especially for You” from 1986 received excellent reviews and sold a million copies in the U.S. reaching No. 51 on Billboard and achieving Platinum status. Their third album “11” from 1989 achieved Gold status. Future albums weren’t as successful but by then the band had developed a loyal following. They went on to release covers of two complete Beatles albums. Their most successful single was “A Girl Like You” from “11.” Written by Pat DiNizio and produced by Don Dixon. RIP Pat DiNizio.
