Join Joanne as she shows us how to resin a live edge wood charcuterie board. Live edge wood has become a favorite for epoxy resin artists because: • Epoxy resin makes the wood grain glow, highlighting its natural beauty. • Resin gives wood a smooth, shiny, protective finish that preserves it perfectly. • It transforms a piece of rustic, organic wood into a modern, functional work of art. • ArtResin’s food-safe formula makes it ideal for cheese and charcuterie boards! Here’s how to create your own epoxy -covered live edge wood piece in 7 steps: Step 1: Prep Work Joanne explains why sealing is essential for achieving a flawless epoxy finish. After sealing, she and Dave sand down the surface to prepare it for the first layer of resin. Step 2: Tape and Seal Joanne tapes off the bottom edges to manage potential drips and applies a thin coat of resin. To seal holes, she cuts a piece of acetate to fit and tapes it to the bottom, to create a base for the resin. Step 3: First Layer Pour In The Hole Now the fun begins. We start with the first 1/8" layer of ArtResin in the base of the hole. Pouring in thin layers allows bubbles to rise to the surface so they can be torched away. Working in layers also helps prevent air bubbles from getting trapped in the resin. Step 4: Fill in Layers Joanne pours multiple thin layers, torching between each one to remove bubbles. This method ensures no stray bubbles ruin the final look! Step 5: Final Top Coat Once the hole is filled, Joanne applies a final coat that spills over the top, then sands it down for a perfectly level surface. Dave removes the tape and acetate, revealing a clean, smooth finish. Step 6: Sand and Clean After sanding both sides of the tray, Joanne wipes it down to remove any dust before applying the final top coat. She tapes the bottom to catch drips and pours the glossy top layer, wiping the sides as she goes. Step 7: Underside Coat Once the resin is dry, Joanne flips the tray over and rubs in a thin coat of ArtResin on the underside—no drips, no taping required! The Finished Piece After many layers, sanding, and attention to detail, the tray is a stunning one-of-a-kind piece, ready to take pride of place in your kitchen! Thanks for watching!
