Arcadia, Florida - HGTV Home Town Takeover - Submission Video

DeSoto County has submitted its hometown, Arcadia, for HGTV’s ‘Home Town Takeover.’ Arcadia is a historic town located in DeSoto County, a rural community in the heartland of Florida. With a population of just over 8,200 (and only 37,000+ in the entire County), we believe Arcadia has all the components HGTV is looking for. In addition to the small population, we have a large number of early 20th century homes desperately in need of renovation as well as a historic downtown, overflowing with history. This is a four-minute and thirty-second video highlight of Arcadia’s downtown area as well as other community gems including the rodeo, the river, the ag industry, and of course the people. However, despite our many assets, the County is a fiscally constrained community. Both the County and the City operate on a shoestring budget and beautification projects rarely make the cut. The video was submitted prior to the February 7 deadline to HGTV. It is unknown, at this point, what steps are next. Until we hear more, we will be keeping our fingers crossed! We appreciate the outpouring of support within the community!
