Really easy solution for a door that is scraping across the floor... No need to remove the door... Trim wooden door in situ... Door Rubbing the Floor happens when the bottom of a door makes contact with the floor or the carpet beneath it while opening or closing. This usually occurs due to the door being misaligned, the floor being uneven, or the door swelling from humidity. The result is a frustrating scraping or dragging sound, and over time, it can damage both the door and the floor. Common Causes: 1. Uneven Floor: The floor may have dips or raised spots where the door meets it. 2. Warped Door: Changes in humidity can cause wooden doors to swell and alter their shape. 3. Hinges Out of Alignment: If the door’s hinges are loose or bent, it can make the door hang too low. 4. Excessive Paint or Varnish Build-up: A thick layer on the bottom of the door may prevent it from moving freely. How to Fix a Rubbing Door: Inspect the Door and Floor: Check if the floor is uneven or if there is noticeable damage to the door. Tighten or Adjust Hinges: Ensure that the door’s hinges are secure and properly aligned. Adjusting or replacing them may help realign the door. Sand the Bottom of the Door: If the door is rubbing in one spot, use a hand sander or sandpaper to remove material from the bottom of the door. Be sure to check frequently to avoid removing too much. Use a Plane for Larger Adjustments: If a significant amount of material needs to be removed, a hand plane can help smooth the bottom of the door. Trim the Door: In some cases, trimming the door is necessary to ensure it clears the floor or carpet. Check the Floor: If the floor is causing the issue, you might need to level the area or install a floor shim. Consider Weather Conditions: If the issue is due to humidity swelling the door, you may need to control moisture levels in the room or consider applying a moisture-resistant finish. By following these steps, you can fix a rubbing door and prevent it from causing further damage to the door or floor. If you are not Subscribed to my YouTube Channel, be sure to do that now.
