Travel Adventures makes our way to Botshabelo, an abandoned German refugee mission station, which is located on the outskirts of Middelburg, in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. The remarkable history behind this place begins with Alexander Merensky and Heinrich Grützner, two young German missionaries, who arrived in South Africa from the Berlin Mission Society during the 1860s, to spread the gospel among the Zulu nation. They were attacked by the soldiers of Chief Sekhukhune, the king of the baPedi of Swaziland, at their previous mission station, Ga-Ratau, in 1865, and were forced to flee with a small group of parishioners. With the little they had, they purchased a farm in the Olifants River Valley near Middelburg and soon established a mission station named Botshabelo, meaning ‘Place of Refuge or Sanctuary. #traveladventures #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #holiday #travelvlog #travel #ruraltravel #reels #shorts #southafricanyoutuber #4kdrive Disclaimer The information provided on this channel or any related site (including, but not limited to, our social media pages) is for general informational purposes only.
