The AIST Creative HCI Seminar series invites bright minds in the field of Human-Computer Interaction and covers various topics directly/indirectly related to creativity support research. For the sixth edition, we invited two researchers under the theme of HCI Research "in the wild." It was held on December 13 (Wed), 2023, as a one-day hybrid workshop — attendees can either visit a venue in Tokyo, Japan, or watch online streaming on YouTube Live. Jennifer has worked on developing programmable tools for visual artists and collaborating with ceramic artists on computational ceramic technologies. Koya has worked on a wide range of digital fabrication research, from materials development to interaction design. In addition to their shared interest in digital fabrication, they share a research approach of conducting research in close collaboration with practitioners and industry. Jennifer Jacobs is Assistant Professor at the University of California Santa Barbara in Media Arts and Technology and Computer Science (by courtesy). At UCSB, she directs the Expressive Computation Lab, which investigates ways to support expressive computer-aided design, art, craft, and manufacturing by developing new computational tools, abstractions, and systems that integrate emerging forms of computational creation and digital fabrication with traditional materials, manual control, and non-linear design practices. Koya Narumi is a project assistant professor at The Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. He combines computational design and digital fabrication to achieve unique products such as self-foldable complex origami sheets [ACM TOCHI][ACM TOG] and inflatable mobility devices [ACM UIST]. He also actively applies his research results to industry, design, and art. 00:00:00 Logistics [Jun Kato] 00:03:18 Introduction of AIST Creative HCI Seminar [Jun Kato] 00:07:27 Invited talk [Jennifer Jacobs] 01:06:28 Q&A [Jennifer Jacobs] 01:29:43 Invited talk [Koya Narumi] 02:21:58 Q&A [Koya Narumi] 2:41:34 Panel discussion pitch and self intro [Jun Kato] 2:55:02 Panel discussion 3:49:20 Closing [Jun Kato] A streaming video archive of all six editions is available at on the AIST Creative HCI Seminar website: https://chci.pages.dev/aist-seminar/en https://chci.pages.dev/aist-seminar
