This is the 4th and last video of our Africa Travel & Learn Series. This 24-minute video highlights the Mfuwe Lodge resort in the South Luangwa National Park northeast of Lusaka, Zambia. The Mfuwe Lodge is run by The Bushcamp Company. Our Tufts group of 23 were the only guests at this remote wilderness lodge. This was an unfenced camp, and required armed escort to and from the Cabanas at night. The Bushcamp Company is also a non-profit organization that employs and supports the surrounding local communities and conservation projects to ensure that the tourism contributes to the people who live and work in Mfuwe. They sourced all the food from local farms. The linens and glassware were produced by local artisans. The diverse staff were attentive and professional. They even remembered how you took your coffee. There was an obvious immense respect of not only the environment and wildlife, but for the people who live there. This was truly the climax of our 14-day tour. Mfuwe Lodge checked all the boxes. The highlights of Mfuwe were the Bushwalks, the Guides, the Sunset Cocktail Hours, the Night Drives, the Dark Skies, fireflies, the Seka Community Theater Troupe performance, a tour of the Mfuwe Village Bore Hole, Tribal Textiles demonstration and gift shop, the Mongolian Grill, the wood-fired pizza, the Filet Mignon, the full-service Bush Brunch, the Spa, and the leopard mama and cubs. On this trip, we made 21 new friends. Some of whom contributed photos and video footage. I'd like to thank Todd Berman, Scotty Maccubbin, Beth Anderson, Thomas Michel, Renee Galitis, Glenn Williams, Jovana & Pierre Gobin for their contributions. Over the course of 12 days and 5 countries, we calculated that we saw and documented 22 species of African mammals including Black Rhino, Elephant, Hippo, 2 distinct species of Giraffe, Lion, and Leopard; 3 reptile; 2 fish; 10 insects; 2 arachnids and over 64 species of birds. We will never forget this experience and count it as a huge privilege that many never get to have.
