What started as a simple trip to Caernarfon to practise my Welsh and grab some food… turned into a wild side quest across North Wales — complete with mysterious plaques, yellow roses, and cryptic poems on ancient gravestones. I walked into The Black Boy Inn and discovered a plaque about Jack — one of the earliest recorded Black men in North Wales. From there, the journey spiralled into a real-life RPG: dialogue options in Welsh, NPC energy from locals, a legendary flower, and a secret graveyard deep in the countryside. Edited like a role-playing adventure, this video follows the map from pub to plaque, from food to folklore — with some clumsy language skills and a cat companion along the way. I just wanted fish and chips. I left with a side quest through time, culture, and identity. 🟡 Featuring: Welsh language learning (Day 190) Real-life RPG story structure The story of John Ystumllyn The Black Boy Inn The yellow rose tribute Exploring Criccieth St Cynhaearn’s Church Beautiful North Wales locations Dialogue trees, NPC interactions, and swing-based side celebrations 🎮
