Best show in the West End at the moment. It’s gritty and the casting is pretty much perfect. One side fact is that Katy Secomb, who plays Widow Corney and becomes Mrs Bumble, is Harry Secomb’s daughter, who played Mr Bumble in the film. The only let down was ‘Who will buy’. Everything else was so good and this just was too ‘small’. I saw it twice in Chichester and three times, so far, in the West End. I loved it in Chichester but find it even better in London, which I didn’t expect. Having seen Oliver! many times over the years, Simon Lipkin is a great Fagin, up there with the best in my view. They have added one small scene with Bill and Nancy just before Fagin arrives in the first half. I managed to go to press night and had Cameron Mackintosh dancing and miming along to ‘Consider yourself’, he is just so enthusiastic. Just go and see it if you get the chance! It just gets better….
