Today's video we are Making Luna Lapin's Wellies. Some call them galoshes, some call them Wellies, some call them rain boots. No matter what you like to call them, Luna now has a pair to keep her feet warm and dry. This project is taken from the sewing book - Making Luna Lapin's Friends. This adorable book will have many more projects to come to you through this channel. The book includes a short story line for each of the Luna Lapin Friends, and patterns to make the friends, some clothes and accessories. Only affluent Victorian families could afford purchased toys. Most children's toys were sourced from sticks, rocks, hand crafted balls and make-shift bats. Dolls were often a simple wooden piece painted, or dolls could also be made of wax or porcelain. It is a very Victorian thing to make hand crafted toys, as most children either came up with their own toys, or parents would help children make some toys. Girls would often start their earliest sewing projects with simple projects, and sometimes scraps of fabric could be sewn into a doll or doll clothes. While Luna Lapin is a very attractive doll series and is a modern character, She still fits with Victorian sewing because the concept of toys and rabbits goes hand in hand with the Victorian era, as that is the same era that the ever famous Peter Rabbit stories came from as well.
