Tree and I have had some great conversations over the past several years and I thought it would be a good idea to sit down and record this as the current NBA 2020 season has been paused. Tree Rollins (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_Ro...) is recognized as a Top 100 All time NBA center and Top 10 NBA shot blocker. He played on the Atlanta Hawks in the day's of Dominique Wilkins and Spudd Webb. He was also one of the last player coaches in the NBA and was one to Shaq as well. Some of the questions from the interview include: 1. You grew up in Cordele, Georgia which is about 65 miles south of Macon. What was life like growing up in small town Georgia and when did you first start playing basketball? 2. You were heavily recruited by Auburn, Mercer, Clemson and many other schools. Why did you choose Clemson which at the time did not have a great basketball tradition? What was the Clemson experience like? 3. You were on the 1975 gold medal Pan-American Games team. Talk about that experience and some of the players you played with. 4. In 1977 you were drafted by the Atlanta Hawks. What was your rookie season like? 5. Today in the NBA you have bench players with multi million-dollar contracts. But Back in the 80’s the NBA was a different league. Tell us what it was like back in the day? 6. In 1982 the Atlanta Hawks acquired Dominique Wilkins who would go on to win two NBA dunk contests earning the nickname "the Human Highlight Reel. Tell us your favorite Dominique story? 7. In 1983 the Hawks brought in Willis Reed who won two championships with the New York Knicks playing center as an assistant. What did Willis Reed teach you about playing center? 8. During the 1983 playoffs with Boston you were involved with in the bench-clearing brawl with Danny Ainge which ended with you biting his finger. What happened? 9. In 1985 the Hawks acquired 5’6 Spud Webb who incredibly would also win the NBA dunk contest. Tell us how you first met spud and your impressions of him. 10. Near the end of your career you became one of the last player coaches in the league with the Orlando Magic. What does a player coach do for those unfamiliar with the role? 11. You were a mentor to Shaq who was also on Orlando. What kind of player was Shaq fresh out of college and what was that experience like? 12. After you retired from the NBA you coached in the WNBA. How was that experience versus the NBA? 13. How has the game evolved since you were a player? How is it different now?’ 14.
