Protestors take to the streets of uptown Charlotte as North Carolina gets ready to host the Democratic National Convention. Convention organizers hope to see a huge financial boost for the state but first had to deal with a major protest. They expected as many as 10,000 protestors but instead ended up with less than a thousand. Event with fewer than expected people, much of uptown was closed off to traffic, causing a major inconvenience for anyone wanting to drive through. Around 90 groups were protesting Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Duke Energy. Charlotte is the second largest banking hub in the country. Folks were also protesting mortgage holders as well as marching in favor of union rights and better working conditions and pay, and marched in favor of clean energy. There was a big concern that protestors would get out of hand and there were quite a few anarchist blogs calling for violence but much of Charlotte was relieved that was not the case. by Russ Bowen
