Some are child-like, some are Animal like. There's even one that acts like a Mafia type. These Hulk personalities existed prior to Banners genetic alteration, ever sense he was a small child, but they were for the most part repressed It wasn't until the genetic alteration that caused physical change that they became unrepressed and now when ever Banner transforms they become dominate or vice versa, when they become dominate he transforms. There's also a Hulk personality that had the tactical brilliance of a war veteran and there was a personality that still retains Banners scientific intelligence. Depending on which personality is in control depends on how powerful he will be while in Hulk form. He also had different kinds of physical Hulk transformations in addition to the different personalities. He sometimes transforms into a gray colored Hulk instead of green, for example. The gray Hulk is usually when the Mafia type personality is in control. For whatever reason,Lou Ferrigno, Eric Banna, and Edward Nortons interpretations only fixated on the savage or child like Hulks so it makes sense that the audience is confused.
