Introduction by Dr. T: “Hello everybody, and thank you for joining me today for my reading of ‘Kyle and his Extra X and Y.’ This is Dr. Nicole Tartaglia, also known to all of the XXYY families as Dr. T. Before I start, I want to give you a little bit of background about this book. First of all, the main character in this book is named Kyle, and that name was chosen because a young man named Kyle was the inspiration for the beginnings of the XXYY Project and a lot of research and support for XXYY families. But, I will tell you that the story in the book is not only Kyle’s. It is the story of lots and lots of XXYY guys that we’ve talked to over the years and we put all of their stories together into a general description of some of the experiences, challenges, and strengths that boys with XXYY can face. So, I want you to join me in this reading of the book ‘Kyle and his Extra X and Y’ and we’ll tell the story of Kyle. This book was authored by Arlie Colvin who was a genetic counseling graduate student in our program at the University of Colorado and illustrated by Suzanne Hayes. Thank you.” Nicole Tartaglia, MD Associate Professor of Pediatrics, University of Colorado School of Medicine Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician Director, Denver Fragile X Clinic Founder & Director, eXtraordinarY Kids Clinic https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/pedi... About the Book: Kyle and his Extra X and Y Written by Arlie Colvin Illustrated by Suzanne Hayes "Kyle and his Extra X and Y is a children’s book for kids with 48, XXYY. This book helps children and adolescents with XXYY understand their condition. The story follows Kyle, a young boy with XXYY, through his busy day as he attends school, goes to golf practice and has a doctor’s appointment. The story explores the genetics of XXYY and addresses social, academic and medical aspects of this condition in an age-appropriate, fun way. Though Kyle’s condition presents him with many challenges throughout the story, he is able to work through each challenge in his own way. Boys with XXYY will identify with and learn from Kyle as they read this book." Get your own copy of the book: https://www.amazon.com/Kyle-his-Extra...
