🇸🇨🏔️ Planting the Seychelles flag on Lobuche East Peak (6,119m) on the 21st of October 2025, is an achievement I will carry with me forever. Very few people in the world — especially from small island nations can say they’ve done this. As a Seychellois mountaineer, standing on that summit felt surreal. Now, as I descend from the East Peak of Lobuche, I’m crossing that sharp, exposed summit ridge — the one that feels like walking along the spine of the sky itself. The ridge is narrow and dramatic, with steep drops falling away on both sides: the glaciated basin of the Khumbu Glacier below me and the rugged slopes tumbling toward Lobuche village. The snow under my crampons is wind-packed, sometimes knife-edged, demanding careful foot placement and steady breathing in the thin Himalayan air. From this ridge, the panorama is overwhelming. To the north and northeast, I see the dark, powerful mass of Nuptse (7,861m) rising like a fortress wall, its serrated ridgeline stretching toward Everest. Just beyond it, slightly hidden, is the crown jewel — Mount Everest (8,848.86m) — unmistakable, with a plume of wind-blown snow streaming from its summit. To the northwest stands Pumori (7,161m), elegant and pyramidal, glowing silver in the light. From here, it feels close enough to touch. Turning slightly west, I can see Lingtren and Khumbutse, guarding the approaches to the Western Cwm. And to the east and southeast, the dramatic face of Ama Dablam (6,812m) commands the skyline — easily one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, its sharp ridges and hanging glaciers catching the sun.
