[Notes:newspaper headlines] The charges have set off a fire storm of criticism. MOS "He shouldn't wait until the government will send him away, he is a shame for the country." SOT Moshe Negbi, Israeli journalist and analyst on judicial affairs: "I personally think that it would be advisable for the President to step down immediately, and if he does not do it, the Knesset has the moral, if not the legal, the moral obligation to impeach him. [Notes:shot of the knesset] During the investigation Katsav insisted he is innocent of any wrongdoing, however he hasn't spoken publicly since the charges were disclosed. His term is set to expire this summer and lawmakers are urging him to step down so as not to further tarnish the office. [Notes:lawmakers] Meanwhile, dozens of lawmakers have already started the impeachment process. They say they will push the procedures through if Katsav refuses to step down.
