(6 Feb 2015) Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Chancellery in Berlin on Friday. The two leaders addressed the media during a joint news conference following the talks. "There is a huge challenge for Iraq regarding the very low oil prices," Chancellor Merkel said. "When the prices drop more than 50 per cent you can imagine what this means for a country like Iraq. We made it clear that we want to support Iraq through equipment and education," the Chancellor said. Prime Minister al-Abadi thanked Germany for the aid his government has received so far in the fight against the Islamic State militants. "As Ms. Merkel already said, we do need non-lethal equipment, but also lethal equipment. And I hope that Germany will support us with these," the Prime Minister said. Al-Abadi will travel to Munich later in the day to attend the Munich Security Conference.
