Woodpeckers was kind enough to send me these saddle t-squares…so I thought I would do a video on them where I just talk for the most part. I’m kidding…there are some fantastic demos along with funny/sarcastic/true comments. Not gonna argue over their pricing or the aluminum. If you want to buy a cheaper knock-off version made overseas then that’s up to you. I’m sure there will be a few comments on….oh I’ll just wait. A big thank you to Woodpeckers too…this set was much appreciated and it’ll see a lot of use in my shop. Thanks for watching! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Voiceovers: For this first and possibly last episode of tool talk with CP Builds...I’m gonna share with you my personal opinion and experience with these Woodpeckers saddle t-squares. So keep watching if that is or isn’t something of interest to you. Enjoy. If you follow me on social media you’ve probably seen how much I like using my Woodpeckers PTS...and these saddle t-squares that they were kind enough to send me are no exception. The fit and finish on these tools look amazing, the laser etched markings are easy to read, and scribing your layout lines can be done very quickly and accurately. Now this video was not asked for nor requested by Woodpeckers in exchange for these tools. I just want to share with you my likes and dislikes in case you were looking to buy these for yourself. So with that being said… The main issue I have with these saddle t-squares is the (3/4)” lip. It should really be (5/8)”…and let me tell you why. Take this piece of (3/4)” or in reality (23/32)” plywood. See how the lip of the tool sits proud of the plywood just a little bit. I know it’s not much but it’s enough. This means the saddle t-square will bottom out before it sits flat on this material. You’ll need to either elevate your workpiece or have it over hang the edge of your work bench in order to keep the tool from bottoming out while you scribe your layout lines. Not a big deal but it gets annoying..at least for me it does. When it comes to laying lines on (3/4) inch plywood…I do prefer using my pocket t-squares. For obvious reasons. Don’t get me wrong I really like using the saddle t-squares but if woodpeckers wanted to make those a little bit more user-friendly…the lip should really be (5/8)”…but that’s just my opinion. I really don’t have a lot of negative things to say about this tool. I know some people are going to comment about the price or the fact that they are made out of aluminum and that’s a given in most videos when their tools are being used or talked about. In reality it’s an accurate…well made tool made right here in the USA. Now it’s not meant to replace your beloved combination square by any means. However I really haven’t used mine for this type of layout work since I got these in my shop. Now I’m not hard on my tools to begin with…that doesn’t mean I don’t use them. I just take care of them as you’ll see shorty. The fact that these tools as well as the majority of Woodpeckers tools are made out of aluminum really doesn’t bother me. I know it’s a softer material and I know how easy aluminum gets damaged which is why I don’t throw or bang these or really any of my tools around. If you don’t want to buy their tools because of that…that’s fine no one is forcing you to. The complete set of these saddle t-squares is a bit on the pricey side…I’d be lying if I said otherwise. Now if you could only afford to buy one saddle t-square I would recommend buying the saddle T-6 but if you wanted a nice combo set…the Saddle T-4 and T-8 would be a good choice IMO. Honestly No one’s gonna judge you for indulging yourself on a nice tool that you personally find value in and if they do then they most likely have too much time on their hands…or it’s your wife of almost 15 years and on that note…I’m gonna call this video done. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Links https://www.woodpeck.com/ https://www.woodpeck.com/measuring/sq...
