2021 SF Giants Lou Gehrig Day

On Thursday, June 3, the San Francisco Giants hosted the inaugural Lou Gehrig Day. Special guests included Chris Mavraedis, author of "Falling in Love with Baseball" who has been living with ALS since 2009 and was honored by being selected to throw out the first pitch! Other pregame festivities included the celebration of SF Giants Buster Posey and Oakland Athletics Stephen Piscotty as recipients of the Lou Gehrig Award, courtesy of Phi Delta Theta; special videos featuring the Golden West Chapter, and our collaborations with ALS CURE and ALS TDI; a tribute to the 2021 ALS Association's Hero Award winner, Kevin Heller, and all of those who have been lost to ALS; and a special video acknowledgement of our community partner and presenting sponsor of Lou Gehrig Day, Cytokinetics. During the game, there was a special live greeting from the ALS community and participating ALS organizations, followed by a tribute to Gehrig, featuring New Orleans Saints Legend and Congressional Gold Medal-winner, Steve Gleason.
