It can be hard to find high profit items if you don’t know where to look, so we’re going to share five of our favorite places to source high profit items. A lot of people don’t know where to look and what to do for the high profit items. #1 The Flea Market This is where we got our name Flea Market Flipper, because we went to the flea market every weekend. When we first started flipping full-time eight years ago, I built a routine and went to the local flea market to find items every single week. It paid off. Now I don’t go every weekend, but when I was first looking for items to sell it was helpful. Consistency is important because you may not find something worth selling every time, but if you go back the third week, you could find $2,000 worth of stuff. The only caveat I would say is if your flea market sells new items, that’s probably not where you’ll find good high profit items. You need to look for flea markets that sell used items or things from auctions or storage containers. You might have to drive a bit to find a flea market that has the kinds of items you’re looking for. #2 Thrift Stores Don’t discount thrift stores. I love thrift stores. Our local Habitat for Humanity would sell us really good items for a good deal. Thrift stores typically get donations of items and then you can buy those donated items for good prices. They sell appliances, furniture, electronics, and more. Some stores like Goodwill tend to be higher priced these days, but check out your local Habitat Restore. 5 Of Our Favorite Places To Source High Profit Items #3 The Apps This is one of my top places to source items. I can do this one from the comfort of my home while I’m relaxing and watching a movie. I can scroll through the apps, make offers, set up pickup times, negotiate, and do all of that from my chair. My three favorite apps in order are Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and Craigslist. The reason why I can find items that are worth a lot of money on Marketplace is because most people won’t ship larger items. An example would be a cooktop for like $50 that we can sell for $2,000. Most people will just try to get a smaller amount locally for it so they don’t have to deal with shipping. You can also make offers on the apps. You might not hear from that person for a little while, but that doesn’t mean that you’re out because sometimes things will sit and they’ll come back to you at a lower rate if they just need it gone. If you send somebody an offer, that doesn’t necessarily mean no. That just means no right now. #4 The Trash This has been a fun one for us over the years. Melissa and I walk every single day and we often walk past items that people put on the curb for trash. There could be something on the side of the road that works but people are just getting rid of it because they replaced it. Just two weeks ago, I pulled a compressor out of the trash and it was a little beat up but it worked fine. It sold for $200 on Facebook Marketplace in like five days. It wasn’t out of the way for me to do that flip. We made contacts at the flea market and they have helped us make hundreds of thousands of dollars. One of my contacts that I still get calls every week from is a scrapper and he takes stuff out of the trash. He’s got business contacts that call him to pick up industrial commercial stuff that when they buy something new, they have him come pick it up. He sends me a picture of it and I buy it from him and then I resell it. These contacts that I’ve made throughout the last couple of years have been huge in accounting for a lot of the revenue that we’ve been able to make.
