In this Steve's Garage video, I do something a little different - woodworking! I fully admit I'm not a woodworker, and this is pretty basic work. But I had fun with it, and ended up with a pretty unique, custom book end to use in my house. I built this simple, custom wood bookend from a scrap piece of red oak and a small piece of sheet metal. As usual with my videos, this is not an in depth how-to for a first time woodworker. While I am not a professional woodworker, I've built simple things in the past, and my skill and this video reflect that. If you have any questions about creating a custom book end, feel free to comment and I'll help you out as much as I can. I built this oak book end as part of a birthday gift, and I think it could make a great birthday or Christmas gift for anyone in your family! As for the design of this bookend, I got the idea after looking up vintage mid century style oak bookends. There was a mid century style book end very similar to this that went for quite a bit of money, so I decided to try and make it myself. As I'm not building this oak book end to sell, I didn't mind taking inspiration from a mid century book end to make my own. Remember to exercise caution when wood working and using tools like a table saw, dremel. Those tools are not forgiving, and things can go bad fast! Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoyed this simple how-to!
