They say the journey is just as important as the destination, and this drive to Cradle Mountain proves it! In this video, we take you on a breathtaking road trip through North West Tasmania as we head toward the iconic Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. This route is one of the most scenic in Australia, taking us through rolling green hills, ancient forests, and rugged mountain passes. Our journey begins in the charming valley of Forth, known for its historic bridge and lush landscapes. As we climb higher, we pass through Lower Wilmot, where you can find the quirky "Letterbox Trail." One of the biggest highlights is the massive, pink granite peaks of Mount Roland towering over the horizon—a true icon of the Kentish region. Finally, we pass through the mountain settlement of Moina, the gateway to the alpine wilderness of Cradle Mountain. Whether you're visiting in 2025 or 2026, this guide highlights the must-see stops and the changing landscapes that make this road trip an absolute bucket-list experience in Tasmania. Wilmot Novelty Letterbox Trail: Keep your eyes peeled between Wilmot and Cradle Mountain for uniquely decorated letterboxes—it’s a great way to break up the drive! Moina: This is one of the highest settlements in Tasmania and often gets a dusting of snow, even in the "shoulder" seasons. Forth Bridge: A beautiful historic area to stop for a coffee and enjoy the river views before the steep climb into the mountains. 🗺️ Cradle Mountain Travel Tips 2025/2026: National Parks Pass: You MUST have a valid Parks Pass to enter the park. You can buy these at the visitor centre or online in advance. Shuttle Bus System: Private vehicles are generally not allowed on the road to Dove Lake during shuttle hours. Your park pass usually includes the shuttle ticket! Weather Warning: Cradle Mountain is an alpine region. Even in summer, it can be sunny one minute and snowing the next. Always bring a waterproof jacket and layers! Fuel Up: There are no petrol stations at Cradle Mountain.
