Bart Simpson's Escape from Camp Deadly is developed by Imagineering and published by Acclaim for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1991, and like most The Simpsons games released by Acclaim in the 90s era, they usually were considered crappy licensed cashgrabs for The Simpsons games, and I mean, people weren't wrong when they complained about them? But honestly, I think this is one of Imagineering's better Simpsons video games, and in fact, it's way better than the games they released for home consoles at the time in my opinion. In fact, this game received mixed reviews, so it definitely depends whether you not you like the game, but honestly, I really like this game! Even with it's annoying moments at times. So the plot, to sum it up in short, is Ironfist Burns (Mr. Burns' nephew) runs a summer camp called Camp Deadly, where Bart and Lisa spend the summer at. However, Ironfist Burns wants them to have as little fun as possible, and refusing them to leave until they are miserable. I guess Ironfist Burns is the villain of the game? But you only really see him once in-game, and even then, you only ever get to jump over him after destroying the lightbulbs and leaving the camp at the end of the game. But anyways, the gameplay here is pretty fun to be honest. It's pretty fun trying to dodge the enemies while throwing boomerangs, and getting extra hit points along the way. Despite the enemy spawning being random and sometimes unfair, I still really enjoy damaging them with the boomerangs! And even the food during the Lunch and Dinner levels. The only enemies I found pretty annoying are the Hornets and Bats, but I was able to get through them with some precise movements. Now despite attacking enemies being pretty fun, that doesn't mean the controls are perfect by any means. The boomerang throwing controls are complex when jumping, but they make some sorta sense once I gotten used to it. As for the jumping controls? Well, jumping is kinda heavy in this game, which did lead to some deaths around the end of the game, plus it can be hard to jump over a bunch of enemies with the tight jumping controls, but at least they're not as complex and obnoxious like the NES Simpsons games that were developed by Imagineering as well. And as for the music? They're actually the same compositions that were in Bart VS The Space Mutants for the NES, albeit maybe a little worse due to how it was ported on the Game Boy, but I still think it has it's charm. My favorite music track in the same is the Final Level's music track, it has this sort of suspension feel to it, which I definitely think fits being in the Final Level of the game, it's like a sign that you made it this far. Though, I think it sounds more creepy and disorienting when in the Super Game Boy pitch, which fits the tone of the Final Level more in my opinion. And plus, it's composition is exclusive to this game. Throughout this longplay, I did use rewind, but only for some of the annoying parts, especially those darn randomized patterned bees around the start of the game. So overall, while it still isn't that great of a Simpsons game, I definitely think it's much better than Imagineering's NES Simpsons games, though to be honest I think Bart Simpson's Escape from Camp Deadly is the only Game Boy Simpsons game worth playing in my opinion, since the rest are just mediocre at best.
