They are scattered cells in the pancrease They are surrounded by delicate connective tissues and lacks ducts. They are basically six types of cells in the islets of langerhans (a) 3 MAJOR ENDOCRINE CELLS - α-CELLS; They constitute about 15% of the islets endocrine cell population. They are situated at the periphery and with irregular shaped nuclei. They secrete glucagon. - β-CELLS; They constitute about 70% of islets endocrine population. They are centrally located in the islet. They have round nuclei and they secrete insulin. D-CELLS; They are composed of about 10% islet endocrine population. They are situated at the periphery adjacent to A-cells and they secrete somatostatin and VIP. (B) 3-MINOR EXOCRINE CELLS - C-CELLS with no known function - EC-CELLS secrete serotonin - PP-CELLS secrete pancreatic polypeptide #Pancrease #isletsoflangerhan
