This is the third drill in the 3-Rescuer CPR progression drills. (Aquatics International, "CPR: Synchronized Teamwork", May 2013) Guidelines: Lifeguards are in 3-person teams, with a primary rescuer, secondary rescuer, and a tertiary rescuer. A manikin will be used for the victim. Rescuers will be wearing a fanny pack equipped with gloves and a pocket mask. Rescuers will also bring an AED to be applied to the manikin. Victim is considered a dry victim with no spinal injury. Rescuers will get to the victim and do the following skills: Glove up Activate EMS (Rescuer will return to assist) Perform a Primary Assessment CPR Utilize the AED and incorporate it into the drill From the primary assessment, it will be determined a rescuer and verbalized that the victim is not breathing, has no pulse and there is no severe bleeding. As the trainer, you can still ensure that your rescuers are opening the airway properly, holding the mask properly, and good posture and body position over the victim. Rescuers must be counting out loud when checking for breathing and during CPR compressions. All rescuers must have gloves on by the end of the drill. AED must be turned on, pads applied during compressions and analysis of the victim must be in progress. Drill doesn't end until rescuers provide at least on CPR cycle (30 compressions, 2 breaths) and an AED must be used. This is an all pass drill, meaning all rescuers must complete the drill for the lifeguard team to receive a pass. This drill must be completed in 45 seconds. A 6-12 lifeguard team is preferred. Depending on size of staff, modify to accommodate needs.
