Journalist and author Tim Alberta delivers the inaugural lecture for the Center for the Study of Evangelicalism at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs based on his bestselling 2023 book The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism. Tim Alberta is an award-winning journalist, best-selling author, and staff writer for The Atlantic magazine. Alberta formerly served as chief political correspondent for Politico and has contributed reporting for publications such as the Wall Street Journal, National Journal, and National Review. In 2019, Alberta released his first book, American Carnage: On the Front Lines of the Republican Civil War and the Rise of President Trump to critical acclaim. Following the passing of his father, an Evangelical pastor serving a congregation in Brighton, Michigan, Alberta moved home and turned from writing on politics to considering the turmoil in his father’s church and the wider Evangelical world. As much an elegy for his father as a comprehensive view onto the contemporary landscape of white Evangelicalism in America, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory represents an important milestone in the ongoing dialogue on the role of Christian faith in public life, and its growing influence on U.S. politics. This lecture was recorded on October 2nd, 2024 in the Shockley-Zalabak Theater at the Ent Center for the Arts.
