Germany's Dax index rises to record high

(28 Dec 2020) Share prices in Germany rose to a record high on Monday morning, eclipsing the previous record set before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The Dax index reached more than 13,810 points, boosted by the White House approving a huge stimulus package, the Brexit deal between Britain and the European Union, and the roll-out of coronavirus vaccines. The Dax suffered a 40% fall shortly after the pandemic started, but has now recovered all of its losses, despite the uncertain economic outlook in many parts of the world. In many countries the economy is still lagging behind pre-crisis levels, and renewed tightening of pandemic measures is creating further risks.
