“Toward the Place” – The Concluding Event of the Mandel Program for Cultural Leadership in the Negev

In August 2025, a gray parking lot in the heart of Beer Sheva was transformed into a place of poetic wonder as part of the concluding event of the Mandel Program for Cultural Leadership in the Negev, Cohort 7. Seeking ways to break through the paralysis that the ongoing war in Gaza caused in Israeli hearts, the graduating fellows of the program created twelve works of art exploring the ecology of imagination. These included a room full of clouds, amulets, Jewish calligraphy, a room with secret drawers, a lullaby, porcelain that emits light, video art, an oversized golem, a song of redemption, a bride's blessing, and a sparkling Negev dress. This video captures the human spirit that came alive at this event, as art opened hearts, sparked reflection, and reminded us that even when our hearts are broken, it's worth continuing to seek the path to beauty.
