General Surgery Residency Innovation Track

The Innovation Track is a collaboration with TMCi and the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery and offers two additional years to the general surgery curriculum focusing on learning how to bring a device or therapy to market. Residents work alongside other surgeon inventors, engineers, product designers and researchers to prototype, test and tweak their ideas until they are ready for clinical trials. They are immersed in the process of 3D printing, prototyping, funding, testing, patenting and more to learn how to bring something from an idea all the way to an FDA approved product that is available for the masses.
