Player Piano is a tribute to the Kurt Vonnegut novel by the same name. The main character is an engineer for a large corporation who manages an automated manufacturing line. He views the world from a position of privilege, but is troubled by the superficial nature of his life. He ultimately finds himself hopelessly enmeshed with an uprising of the disenfranchised humans who have been replaced by machines. The humanoid robots depicted in this video are not literally described in Vonnegut's story, but they symbolize the tension between humans and machines that are a central theme in the book. While the video depicts a time in America's past, the battle for a meaningful life is now, and probably always will be, a contemporary theme.
