Aqhat

Aqhat, or Belonging to Aqhat, is a narrative from ancient Canaan found at Ras Shamra, ancient Ugarit. The tablets, three in total, were found during the 1929 excavation shed light on many different aspects of Biblical text. For example, the character of Danel, Aqhat's pious father, is more than likely the Daniel the writer of Ezekiel references in his message to the King of Tyre in Chapter 28. Like most of the excavated tablets, we also have the scribe's name as he inscribed his name on each tablet he wrote: Ilimilku from Shuban. The tablets date from the late Bronze Age as Ilimilku records that he worked under King Niqmaddu, though the myths themselves no doubt originate much earlier than Ilimilku's hand. Unfortunately, many of the tablets were broken over time as they lay hidden beneath the earth and as a result, nearly all the longer stories suffer breaks in narrative that cannot be restored. You may notice this as my narrative at times seems to pause in odd spots or jump forward in time. While I am trying my hand at learning Ugaritic and Biblical Hebrew, this translation was done by Michael D. Coogan and Mark S. Smith and can be found in their book "Stories From Ancient Canaan 2nd. Edition". The music is just stock Garageband music loops. I do plan on doing more narrations this year.
