윤 대통령 "한중일 3국 협력 메커니즘 조속 활성화 기대" We begin in the Cambodian capital where the 40th and 41st ASEAN related summits are taking place. President Yoon Suk-yeol is there to take part in those meetings as part of his six-day tour of the Southeast Asian region which will also take him to Bali, Indonesia for the G20 summits. Our editor-in-chief Moon Connyoung is traveling with the president and she's live on the line for us from Phnom Penh. Connyoung, what's the latest? Daniel, Phnom Penh is two hours behind Seoul so, it's 10AM on Saturday here in the Cambodian capital. President Yoon Suk-yeol got off to an early start this morning his second day in this country. He took part in the ASEAN Plus Three summit which came to a close just moments ago. The ASEAN Plus Three, of course, involving the ten ASEAN member states and their economic partner countries namely, South Korea, China, and Japan. This year, only nine leaders of the ten members of the ASEAN are present as they blocked Myanmar's military ruler from participating in the meeting. With Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in attendance, the South Korean president continued his campaign for solidarity and cooperation with the ASEAN this time with emphasis on its unity with its three economic partners. (Korean) More importantly, referring to the multiple crises facing the world today, President Yoon said he hopes to see the South Korea, China, Japan trilateral cooperation mechanism up and running again so that together they can overcome the crises. (Korean) What can we make out of the South Korean leader's message today? It is a slight shift in tone from yesterday's South Korea, ASEAN summit where President Yoon said "any unilateral change in the status quo by force should never be tolerated" in this region using a phrase often used by the U.S. and Japan when denouncing China on heightening tensions over the South China Sea and Taiwan. Today, by stressing the importance of solidarity and cooperation between Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo it appears the South Korean leader is marching ahead with his South Korean diplomacy based on values making efforts to avoid being caught in the middle of U.S., China rivalry especially here in this part of the world that's increasingly becoming a geopolitical battleground between the two.
