Cape Gannet (Morus capensis) Afrikaans: Witmalgas Bird Island is home to ore of the largest breeding colonies of Cape Gannets in the world. These elegant seabirds, with their distinct black and white plumage, can be observed in large numbers from the unique bird hide next to the breeding colony. How sad it was to spend a glorious hour watching these remarkable Sea Birds only to leave and watch the Cape Fur Seals ripping the fledgelings apart and eating them while they are learning to swim out and leave the colony, it’s was horrible indeed. We witnessed the killing of more than 12 birds in about 30 minutes, it was unbearable.
