Student Loan Forgiveness: Bri Franklin

In 2023, the Supreme Court heard 2 cases regarding Student Loan Forgiveness on February 28. In recognition of those past cases, WCAPS invited three student loan forgiveness advocates to a conversation to talk about the current landscape and how we move forward, as well as the impact on borrowers. Briana "Bri" Franklin is a businesswoman, philanthropist and student debt expert/thought leader with a passion for socioeconomic and holistic empowerment of Black girls and women. Having taken on a financial burden of nearly $120K in student debt through her undergraduate studies, Bri developed an acute appreciation for the challenges many student debt holders experience, and in recognizing the extent to which other Black women are impacted by the $2T student debt crisis and lack of financial literacy, she formed The Prosp(a)rity Project as a solution for eradicating these systemic barriers. Her work has been profiled in outlets such as Katie Couric Media, Forbes and Buzzfeed, attracted support from audiences worldwide and received recognition by way of SXSW's 2023 Innovation Award for Social Impact and Visionary Women's 2023 Rising Visionary Award.
