I've been meaning to review this shelter for quite some time. So, here are a few things I've liked and disliked about the Solplex. Q: What "Lighter Shelters" were you referring to? NOTE: I am not comparing them directly with the solplex as they are quite different and the solplex is considered a tent and the others are more of a tarp system. They are cheaper and lighter, but It's a trade off. A: I have been looking the tarp systems with a perimeter bug net. (paired with a polycro ground sheet) I used one made by John Z on the GDT, and enjoyed it. the Zpacks pocket tarp is similar, but would need the netting sewn in. The hexamid looks nice aswell. Q: I hike with Trekking Poles, does the Solplex still make sense for me? A: Yes, It also makes sense for anyone who doesn't use trekking poles. I love my Solplex. They are great. Don't focus on the negatives in this video, just be aware they exist. It has served me well, and will probably do the same for you. Q: Solplex over the Hexamid? A: I dunno, I haven't used a Hexamid. but if I do, be sure I'll let you know.
