Today I will summarize Proverbs chapter 18, which contains 24 of Solomon’s proverbs. I will give you another sampling of these, since there are many proverbs covering many topics. Hopefully you will spend some time and read them for yourself. Solomon wrote: Fools don’t care about actual facts or understanding. They delight in sharing their own wrong opinions. It is not good to deprive justice to the innocent or to be partial to the wicked. The fool’s mouth will bring them strife and a good beating. The lazy man is a brother to the one who destroys. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and find safety there. Rich people think their riches protect them. But they are wrong, as usual. Pride comes before a fall. Only the fool answers before listening and researching. The wise person studies and acquires knowledge before answering. SOlomon continued: In a courtroom, the first person who speaks always seems right until someone cross examines the case. Casting dice or flipping a coin can always settle a dispute and it will prevent fighting. Remember, the Lord is in control of the outcome of those things. The tongue has the power of life and death. Make sure you use it wisely. Whoever finds a wife finds something good, and receives favor from the Lord. Poor people plead for mercy but rich people give them none. The person who has friends must be a friend himself. And there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. The most important verse in this chapter is Proverbs 18:10 which states, ‘The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it and is safe.’ The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that the fool will always offer his opinion but will not research anything adequately. But the wise person will do his homework. God does not want anyone to show favoritism but instead they should judge impartially. He wants people to be hard working and wise. He wants people to know that the tongue has the power of life and death. And God wants us to know that if someone finds a wife, they found something good. Do you love to provide your unsolicited opinion to people? Do you actually research things and know what you are talking about? Have you surrendered your life to the Lord yet? If not, why not? Repent for your sin and turn to Jesus for salvation. Jesus humbled himself and died on a cross to pay for your sin, and he Father raised Jesus from the dead. God said if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and if you believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead, you would be saved. Why don’t you do that right now?
