“If there is a shortage of water in Karachi... where are the tankers getting it from?” 60% of Karachi either has no access to line water or is classified as water-deficit. This water crisis is not a consequence of a challenge in resources – but of a deliberate criminal enterprise which steals water from the bulk line and sells it back to the people, profiting from their suffering. This was the key finding of Perween Rahman, Director of the Orangi Pilot Project, who took on the water mafia on behalf of the residents of Orangi – at too great a price. You can read Perween’s report, here: http://labs1.tribune.com.pk/aqua- final/perween-rahman-water-study.pdf This video is part of a series titled "The Cost of Water" - where we explore the situation of water availability in Orangi, the OPP's role in addressing the water crisis through the work of its late director, Perween Rahman, and the impact of her tragic loss on the community.
