Staphorst in Overijssel emerged as a ribbon village along the Oude Rijksweg between Zwolle and Meppel. The place was already mentioned in the thirteenth century, but the current Staphorst dates from the seventeenth century. It is a peat colonial settlement. A community was created with its own rules and laws. The traditional costume of Staphorst-Rouveen is worn in Staphorst and the village of Rouveen, which is attached to Staphorst..
