Arturia KeyLab 88 mk3 – Piano & Strings Performance

This one is different. After over three decades, instead of sequenced synth jams, I’m at the piano again. Well, at the Arturia KeyLab 88 mk3 - using its weighted hammer-action keys together with Arturia’s Augmented series of instruments. The track is a new version of our old Syntakt performance Awakening, which uses all 12 tracks for melodic parts to sort of approximate an orchestra. You can check out that version here:    • Syntakt: not just a drum machine - Film sc...   With the KeyLab 88 mk3 and Arturia’s plugins, we were able to revisit the idea with more realistic sounds: Piano V3 Augmented Strings Augmented Voices (choir) Augmented Brass (horns) Jup-8000 V (bass) Note: not all of these are included in the standard KeyLab 88 mk3 bundle. The stock package comes with Analog Lab Pro, Mini V, Piano V, Augmented Strings, and Rev PLATE-140 (reverb). Some extras were kindly provided to me by Arturia for this recording. Even though the KeyLab is “just” a MIDI controller, it feels more like a real instrument than most gear in my studio. The weighted keys are a joy to play, and they made me want to practice for days to get a decent performance for this recording. My son, who’s taking weekly piano lessons, loves playing on these keys too! Big thanks to Arturia for sending the KeyLab 88 mk3, and to CME for providing the WIDI dongle - it lets me record live into Ableton over Bluetooth with no noticeable latency.
