Assembling the iconic 4 wd buggy, with Le Mans 240 SB motor, cooling plate, ballraced steering rack. Starting up the car at 1:24 This car was recently built from lots mainly collected between 2007 and 2010. However the body is a new Penguin body which fits well but needs to be adapted to the car when trimming it. I used 4 thin layers of Tamiya PS 6 and backed it with 2 layers of Tamiya PS 19 to get a slighly deeper yellow color. Pls refer to video, undertray painted first to compare. The Gear cover is from TBG and has a tight fit, it received 4 thin layers of "smoke" paint. The stickers are Tamkyo and looks good (less a small typo error). The stickers were fitted by removing the protective film on only a part of the sticker and correctly positioning it before fastening it. The tires were initially vintage aftermarket ones but were replaced with Kyosho Optima re-re tires. I forgot the shims between wheel axle bearings and hex drives, installed subsequently. I do not have the two sway bars, the small rubber cover for sealing off the belt just above the motor and the two original servo mounts. The 2 screws for the wing mount are not original either. The original belt had a slightly too-wide section for the pulleys and was replaced with an aftermarket belt. (the small rubber cover for belt and the original servo mounts plus the switch holder were retrofitted in November 2021, and the original screws for the wing mount were installed in Dec 2021, new OT-66 tires by Sep 2024). Weight of the car less battery less speedo is 1,265 grams. I still have many Optima Mid parts so I will also build an Optima Mid runner at a later stage. For a runner it is important to properly seal the belt covers to prevent dirt from entering the gearbox. Also, the gears should have some grease but avoid grease on the pulleys and belt. The Optima Mid cars were produced by Kyosho between 1987-1989 and were among the best 1/10 scale RC buggies for 4 WD off-road racing back then, winning international, national and local races.
